“There is no limit to what we, as women, can accomplish.” – Michelle Obama
WHAT DRIVES US?
We’re unapologetically feminist. We believe in the political, economic and social equality of the genders. And our feminism is intersectional – the only way it should be. Every young woman, irrespective of background and structural barriers, should and must have the opportunity to fulfill her potential.
And that’s also why we’re called SPECTRA. Women exist on multiple spectrums/spectra – they come in different colours, shapes, sizes, abilities.
We started Spectra because we saw a problem and we wanted to do something to fix it. So we’re not just going to sit somewhere and complain about what’s wrong with the world. We’re going to walk the walk. And we want everyone in the community to feel empowered to do the same, fulfill their potential and make the world a better place.
We’re all about being real. We keep authenticity and honesty in the back of our mind whatever we do.
“There’s a special place in hell for women who don’t help other women.”
We think Madelaine Albright – the first woman to become US Secretary of State – is right. If we want women to succeed we need to make it a priority to help each other out (It’s also why our S represents two hands holding each other!).
MEET THE TEAM
The chatty friend who is obsessed with careers – when she was 5 she was planning already- , dishes out all the info she’d collected to her friends and has made it her mission to help said friends achieve their job dreams. She’s read a lot of CVs and cover letters and personal statements as a result.
Dream career: hopes to go into tech and venture capital.
Loves: Reading non-fiction – I know she’s boring, fan fiction, career talk, podcasts, and learning about how tech can change our lives for the better.
Dislikes: Bananas, pigeons and fake ppl
Head of Strategy
The ‘keen’ friend who always makes the plans. She asks overly-personal questions to get people to open up. And only stops when she finds out what drives someone. She gets a kick from helping people (from the ages of four to eighty) find their passions and figure out their purpose.
She is a poet and a future strategy consultant.
Loves: how art can take you back and also how it can take you forward – push society in a certain direction. Follow her creative endeavours @ankitawrites.
Dislikes: rodents + mushy peas”
